The 37th Annual New Years Eve Party
A while back I was told by my favorite neighborhood physician that I needed to be getting more exercise. Now, my feeling has always been that it was easy to get hurt, running, jumping and all that stuff, and very difficult to get hurt falling off a couch. My doctor didn’t agree, had me take up an intense program of running, ok, jogging… alright, walking.
On one fine day I was walking down a trail I had been on before, suddenly out of nowhere came a giant chipmunk, no kidding this thing had to be two feet tall. He lunged at me, I darted left down a sheer cliff, maybe a steep incline, look, it was downhill. The long and short of it was that I wound up at the bottom, one broken leg and a sprained ankle later with no hope of getting to the top alone. After a time, I remembered I had my cell phone, but Rosemary wasn’t answering. It took about a half hour for me to reach Adam who said very calmly “Why didn’t you just call 911”. Don’t you just hate kids?
When the paramedics came, I warned them about the giant chipmunk, one of them said something about a head injury. “I’m tellin you, this thing was three foot if he was an inch” I argued. Well I’m on the mend, my doctor has taken me off the exercise routine, no one is even looking for this four foot rabid chipmunk and I’m packing for the New Year’s Eve Party.
